CHRONICLES OF A BESTSELLING PUBLISHER
The Day I became a Bestselling Publisher
When I received the announcement that our new release,
GODDESS GIFT: Discover Your Personal Goddess Type by Sharon Turnbull,
Ph.D. debuted at the #1 position on the Amazon.com Bestsellers list,
I was overflowed with joy. Here's the sequence of events on 2.22.07:
Sharon Turnbull sent me an e-mail in the early
afternoon today (2.22.07). In the subject there was: >>>>Big news,
HAPPY NEWS<<<<
"We're the #1 book at Amazon in the Bestseller New Age/Goddesses
section and the Personality section (and have been for over 3 hours
now)... and we're #9 overall for New Age and #12 for Self Help tho'
that's been dropping. Got the screenshots to prove it!"

My reply: In the subject: Oh my goddess! my
mouth just dropped open in amazement.
"Let me read your email again. Hold on... I'm back... AHHHHHHHHH!
WOW! OK! I must see this with my own two eyes. The book must have
debuted at #1. Gotta go! This is so good! Thank you."
Imagine my surprise when I received this wonderful
news, but it didn't really dawn on me until later tonight that Sharon
is not only a bestselling author... I am now a bestselling publisher.
I feel a little different. I haven't felt like this since Random
House reprinted one of our titles. The really cool thing about this
story is that GODDESS GIFT debuted at #1 before Amazon received
books! I just received my shipment of books a few weeks ago not
to mention the length of time the author and I spent in labor bringing
birth to the goddess. Now, the goddess is alive... and Magic is
Afoot.
We are right above Sylvia Brown at #2 and above Doreen
Virtue at #4. Good company. These girls sell a ton of books. Plus,
GODDESS GIFT has a 5 star rating! This is all a good omen; and GODDESS
GIFT really is a good book. If I published it... it's good. I am
very very picky about our books.
I'm getting ready for our first fiction title too.
Our mystery imprint is called... Murder on the QT. But, I don't
want to sound like a commercial.
There's so much fun ahead, and I feel like I'm just
getting started, though I've been publishing now since I left the
comfortable shelter and expense account of CBS Radio here in L.A.
back in 1993.
Sharon sent another email at 6:59pm PST (By
the way, Sharon lives in Johnson City, TN and she's on EST): "...and
there we are #1, at least we were from 12:14 to 9:15 EST... Anyway,
I got screen shots of all the great positions (pictures of my screen)
and I'll try to send a couple of important ones to you tomorrow.
But tonight, it's to bed."
At the bewitching hour of midnight, EST, we were
still holding our place. I wonder how many days we can stay in the
land of the Bestsellers? One bestseller list usually leads to another,
you know—and you can always get off and back on again. Wow...
the power of books!
I feel a little giddy. But I'm also tired. I've been
up since 5am. I guess all the excitement of the day has caught up
with me. Becoming a bestselling publisher is exhausting... and I
love it! I want more! I'm competing with Random, the Penguin, Simon,
Knopf, Doubleday, & Harper now. Whew! I better get some rest. Today
is my mothers birthday (2.22). Happy Birthday Mom! I've been saying
that all day.
